The Stearns family has been in the stone masonry business for over 50 years. In the 1950s, Arthur Stearns began as a yard laborer with The Plymouth Quarries. During breaks, he would go down to the cutting sheds and study the stone cutters at their craft, cutting granite with hammers and chisels. After a few years and with the encouragement of his stone-cutting "teachers," Arthur bought a truck and started his professional life as a stone mason. Arthur continued the tradition of his trade by passing on the craft to his sons Derek and Butch and to his nephew Dean. Following Arthur's untimely death in 1987, Butch and Derek kept the business going. A few years later, Dean came on board and he and Derek founded Stone by Stearns. Inspired by Arthur, they continue the same quality work, fair pricing, excellent craftsmanship and pride in their work.
